Backhoes and loaders are the long-service machines of Connecticut fleets. Towns run them for twenty five years, contractors longer, and somewhere in that life every pane in the cab gets broken at least once. ClearCab Equipment Glass cuts replacement glass to pattern at the machine, so the age of the iron never blocks the repair, and prices hold to the published range of $350 to $750 per pane.
Rubber-set glass is a different trade than bonded
Most backhoe and loader cabs set their glass in rubber channel rather than bonding it with urethane, and rubber-set work rewards patience: the channel has to come out clean, the corners have to be cut right, and the locking strip has to seat all the way around or the pane works loose on the first washboard road. We carry channel stock in the common profiles and replace it with the glass, because thirty year old rubber does not survive the job.
Municipal and fleet backhoes, handled in the yard
Public works fleets from New Britain to Torrington run backhoes that plow, dig and load year round, and a cracked pane in November becomes a frozen operator by December. We service town yards in scheduled visits, several machines per trip, and invoice the way municipal purchasing needs it. Ask about a standing account if your yard runs more than a few cabs.
Common backhoe and loader questions
My backhoe is from the 1990s. Can you even find glass for it?
Yes, because we do not find it, we make it. Backhoe cab glass from that era is flat, and flat glass cuts to pattern at the machine. Age matters to a dealer parts counter, not to a glass cutter.
The rear glass over the hoe controls broke. Same price as a door?
Same published range, $350 to $750. Rear panes on backhoes are often the biggest glass on the machine, which pushes toward the top of the range, but access is usually easy, which pushes back down.
Loader windshield is pitted and hazed from years of bucket spill. Replace or live with it?
If the operator squints into sun glare at the start or end of shift, replace it. Haze scatters light exactly when visibility matters most, and a loader that cannot see the bank swing zone is how incidents happen.
Do you glass dozers and graders too?
Yes. Dozer and grader cabs run big flat panes that we cut and set on site, and track-thrown stone cracking a door pane is one of our most common Naugatuck Valley calls.
